No dedicated critical reviews of this specific 1990 EP could be found. Important context: despite "Session 6," this is NOT a jazz record. "Sounds Session 6" is a 12-inch alternative rock/ska/punk EP by the Zurich band Crank (Adrian Weyermann, Geza Burghardt, Thomas Winkler, Beni Schindler), released on the Sounds! label (soso 006), the record arm of the long-running Swiss public-radio program "Sounds!" (on DRS 3, now SRF 3), which has showcased new/young Swiss bands since 1976. Michael Gassmann is not a band member; he appears as a guest brass cameo, credited "Trumpet" on a single track, A2 "I'm A Reiser," alongside two saxophonists (Ronnie Brunner, alto; Andrej Vckovski, tenor) — a one-track horn-section appearance, not a jazz date. What press exists is band-level rather than release-level: Swiss media (SRF 3's Pop-Archiv, German Wikipedia) treat Crank as 1990s "Kritikerlieblinge" (critics' darlings) known for musical range and energetic live shows, though commentary notes the band ultimately struggled to fully meet the press hype around them. Crank's later, more-charted full albums (Torture King 1996, We Hope to Meet You There 1998, Crank 2000) are what drew reviews; this early radio-session EP did not, at least in indexed sources. Discogs (release 5081437) is the only catalog source carrying Gassmann's credit; its public page returned 403 to automated fetches but the data was confirmed via the Discogs API. AllMusic, All About Jazz, JazzTimes, Down Beat, Musica Jazz and the Swiss/German/Italian jazz press carry nothing on this title — unsurprising, as it falls entirely outside jazz coverage.

Recorded at Al Dente Studio, Wadenswil, and mixed at Powerplay Studio, Maur (Switzerland); produced by Crank and Helge van Dyk (who also recorded and mixed); lyrics printed on the inner sleeve. Concept/realization by Dani Hitzig and Pascal Hunkeler; graphics Roli Fischbacher; photography Roland Brummer. Eight short tracks, several sub-2-minutes (A1 "You Have To Sk8" 1:16; B4 "I Like Sk8" 0:17), with German/Swiss-German skate-culture titles — a youthful, demo-session feel consistent with the Sounds! radio-series origin. The "Sounds!" program (DRS 3 / SRF 3) has presented new music since 1976 and its associated label issued these numbered "Sounds Session" releases to spotlight emerging Swiss bands; the soso 006 catalog number places this as the sixth in that series. Crank were primary-school-aged when they started (founded 1982) and went on to four studio albums and Swiss chart placements in the later 1990s; Adrian Weyermann (vocals/guitar) became the best-known member. Gassmann's role here is a session brass cameo on one track, an early-career sideline rather than part of his jazz discography.
