About this record
Background
"Jazz Club" is part of Sonoton's flagship SCD production-music series. Sonoton is a long-established (founded 1965) Munich-based production music library; its SCD line was its core CD catalog (200+ titles, in every style) before the series was discontinued around 2014 as the library moved to digital delivery. Album SCD 376 collects original jazz cues built for synchronization use. Discogs credits the release to "Various," consistent with library albums that bundle multiple composers/ensembles. At least one ensemble on or associated with this title is the Apaturia Quintet — a group connected to Italian double-bassist Giuseppe "Fratello Joseph" Bassi; the track "Sirena" (Sonoton track code SCD037619) is credited to Bassi as composer and performed by the Apaturia Quintet, and survives as a streamable cue. Michael Gassmann's credited role here is "Appearance," i.e. a sideman/session contribution typical of how trumpeters are hired to play on library jazz sessions. This is a work-for-hire/session context rather than an artistic statement under Gassmann's own name, which is consistent with it generating no press. (Disambiguation handled: nothing here was conflated with the classical musicologist Michael Gassmann; the Apaturia/Bassi connection points to the working jazz scene, not the academic one.)
