About this record
Background
"Airs Libres" is a 2001 release on the independent Swiss jazz label Altrisuoni (catalog AS 087; founded 1993 in Lugano, Ticino, focused on Swiss artists and improvised/acoustic jazz). Credited to guitarist/composer/producer Yves Reichmuth, the session features Michael Gassmann (trumpet, flugelhorn), Roman Glaser (flute), Thomas Schenkel (bass) and Rafael Woll (drums). Reichmuth trained at the Jazzschule Lucerne (diploma in electric guitar performance, arranging and pedagogy) under teachers including Christy Doran; he cites Jimi Hendrix and John McLaughlin as influences and works in a free/experimental idiom blending jazz, rock and theatre music. A 2016 "13 Questions" interview at the Prepared Guitar blog lists "Airs Libres" in his selected discography and describes a non-routine, exploratory practice ("free lines, ethnically inspired things, noises, sounds"), situating the album within his early-2000s improvisation-forward work that later continued on Unit Records and Veto Records (e.g., "Fractal"). Recording date, studio and detailed track listing were not recoverable because the Discogs release page is bot-blocked.
