Critical coverage of this 2002 Unit Records fusion date is sparse. The one substantive piece of criticism located is the AllMusic capsule review, which frames the album as accomplished but derivative jazz-rock fusion: it positions Swiss guitarist Laszlo Spiro's playing in the lineage of McLaughlin, Holdsworth, Metheny, Gambale and especially Michel Cusson (of UZEB), describes a thick, late-1980s fusion sound given a fresh contemporary gloss, praises the recording quality and musicianship, and recommends it specifically to fusion fans. Notably for this discography, the review singles out the opening track "Prelude" for its ringing guitar under what it calls a beautiful trumpet line played by Michael Gassmann — a direct, favorable mention of Gassmann's contribution rather than generic ensemble praise. Credited to Laszlo Spiro & Proximal Factory; released 2002 on the Swiss label Unit Records (catalog M010.04), copyright 2002 Laszlo Spiro. Laszlo Spiro is a Swiss jazz-fusion guitarist (also credited with guitar synthesizer, electronics, and composition of all tracks). Michael Gassmann appears on trumpet, with a noted feature on the opening track "Prelude." The 10-track, roughly 52-53 minute program was later re-released/distributed digitally under the alternate title "Proximal Factory" (Qobuz lists a 2009 redistribution date while retaining the 2002 copyright). No studio, producer, recording-date, or full personnel details beyond Spiro and Gassmann could be confirmed from accessible sources, since the primary catalog source (Discogs) returned HTTP 403.
